It was four in the morning when Ada heard the high, sharp flickering of the stove. Raising her head off of her pillow she glared at her bedroom door. A pan was placed on the stove as the rest of the burners were lit. The smell of eggs and bacon washed under the door.
Groaning, Ada sat up and pushed her blankets off to the side. She pulled on the pair of sweatpants discarded on top of her desk chair and rummaged through her drawers until she found a sweatshirt. Pulling the sweatshirt over her head, Ada opened her bedroom door.

The abandoned pizzeria glowed with soft white light as I stepped out of my car. My passing glance showed me that the lights on the front office were on. Feeling a smile spread across my face, I locked my car and walked slowly to the building.
Once upon a time it had been a flourishing pizzeria. The battered old sign that hung across the front door had rotted, leaving only the words “Tic Fun Time” behind.
